Weddington Chase Wild Dolphins

Membership in the Wild Dolphin Swim Team is open to Weddington Chase resident children ages 5-18, including those 19 year olds having just graduated from high school as of May 31st. There are no tryouts. Team members should be able to get across the 25 meter pool unassisted. Occasionally a four year old may be able to confidently swim across the pool unassisted. Please speak to the Head Coach or Team Representatives about an age level exception if you have a four year old interested in joining the team.

We will be offering a Little Dolphins Camp opportunity for children five and under who are not quite ready to join team and cannot yet swim the length of the pool unassisted. Camp will include group lessons several times per week with our amazing coaches to help these kids get more comfortable in the water. 

The swim team is entirely self-funded through registration fees, concessions proceeds from home meets, and sponsorships. The registration fee for the first swimmer in a family is $150.00, and each additional swimmer will be $125. This cost includes league membership, Swimtopia fees for each swimmer, and entry fees for each meet as well as daily practice and targeted swim instruction for seven weeks. In addition, each swimmer will receive a team t-shirt and a latex swim cap with their registration fee.

Wearing a team suit builds a sense of team spirit and camaraderie. It unites our youngest swimmer who is just learning to get across the pool with our oldest, most confident swimmers. Team suits are assigned in two year cycles. Last year's suit was discontinued by the manufacturer and a new suit was chosen for the upcoming season.

Kiefer Aquatics will be at our Launch Party on Friday, May 9 to assist with team suit fittings. Competitive suit sizing can be tricky and suits should fit tightly so they don't create drag in the water. Swim shop personnel will be at the Launch Party to help find the right size for your child.We highly encourage everyone to try to come by the Launch Party to try on your suit and take it home with you because the team gets a portion of the sales.

If you aren't able to attend the Launch Party, you can always visit Kiefer Aquatics located inside the SwimMAC facility on the Charlotte Latin campus. Just let them know you are with Weddington Chase and you need to try on a team suit. The swim shop also has an online site for team suit purchases.

Please see the practice tab for the most up-to-date practice schedule. Practices generally go Monday-Friday through the swim season (starting mid-May and ending at the end of June). All-Star practices will run the week of the All Star Meet. Our team will be stronger with daily attendance and hard work at practice. We do understand that your children have other activities or camps that occasionally interfere. We simply ask that you make every effort to get your swimmers to practice at every opportunity that they can be there, and that you try to minimize disruptions to their swimming progress as much as possible. 

Please see the Meets & Events tab for a full meet schedule and more details. Each meet will either take place at our home pool in Weddington Chase or a host pool at another location. Half of our meets are at home and half are away. Meets always start at 6pm. Swimmers are expected to arrive at 4:30pm for home meets and 5pm for away meets so that they are ready to go for warm-ups.  

Spectators can join us poolside for meets. Please bring a chair and come cheer us on! Concessions such as burgers, hot dogs, snacks and drinks are available for purchase and proceeds benefit the team. Please remember there are no alcoholic beverages allowed on the pool deck at any time during swim team events including both meets and practices. 

When is comes to running summer swim team in the community, it takes a village for everything to run smoothly!  Therefore, volunteering is required of all swim team families.  This year each family will need to complete a specified number of volunteer shifts by the end of the season.  There are opportunities for every level of knowledge and ability, there is a role to suit every strength, and every level of availability.  We are happy to help you find the best way to meet your volunteer requirements - reach out to our volunteer coordinators anytime for assistance!
